Capital Interfaith Hospitality Network (CIHN) is a coalition of NW DC and suburban Maryland congregations operating facilities for housing and feeding homeless families. Volunteers bring life and care to our organization. We could not operate without the generosity of hundreds of individuals who bring meals, spend overnights and provide administrative, fund-raising and oversight support to CIHN. We invite your congregation or association to join us in this unique service opportunity. FOOD & SHELTER CARE. Every dinner – all 365 of them—is prepared and delivered by a volunteer from one of our member congregations. This not only provides our families with a nutritious meal but also gives our volunteers an opportunity to befriend a homeless child or adult. These connections are integral to our mission and have proven valuable for all involved. We also depend on our volunteers for overnight help in the shelter. While we have a paid staff member during the week, the weekends are open to those who want a more in-depth service opportunity. We ask volunteers to plan to be at the shelter from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m.
FUNDRAISING & ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT. We can also use volunteer assistance in our office and in our fund-raising program. Currently, we have one part-time administrative employee; help with data base management, newsletter creation, accounting and other office work would be most appreciated. Also, we are always open to new sources of revenue and assistance in preparing grant applications. |

FAMILIES WELCOME. Volunteers are welcome to bring their children. Nothing breaks the tension of an initial meeting better than two children discovering each other and the fun of playing despite differences in their economic circumstances.
