Our Board of Directors consists of representatives from our partner organizations

  • Ann Levin, MA, MPH, PhD (Chair)
    • Dr. Levin is a world-renowned International Health Economist who consults with government agencies and nonprofits to improve the health of families in developing countries. In addition to having lived in Washington DC, she has has lived and worked in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.  Dr. Levin received a Masters degree in Women in Development from American University, and a doctorate in health economics from the Johns Hopkins University. She has served on boards in the Washington DC area for more than 20 years. She and her son and daughter have often slept at the CIHN shelter as volunteers over the past decade.
  • Rosemary Collopy (Co-Chair/Volunteers)
    • Ms.Collopy is an active community volunteer in the area of homelessness and shelter.  She is Volunteer Coordinator for Blessed Sacrament Parish and CIHN.  In addition, she helped organize the annual Christmas party for the last four years at Augusta-Louisa Apartments, a 26-unit transitional housing apartment house operated by Northwest Church Family Network.  Ms Collopy also helps with monthly dinners for Mt. Carmel, a women's shelter in D.C. and volunteers with Blessed Sacrament Sanctuary Sodality, helping with the elderly at Little Sisters of the Poor. She provides care and services to babies up for adoption at Mother Teresa House and volunteers at schools such as Blessedd Sacrament and Gonzaga College High School.
      Prior to her volunteer work, Ms Collopy was active in commercial real estate banking.
  • Eliza Hamner-Koenig (Secretary)
    • Ms. Hamner-Koenig is a Senior Development Officer at IREX, an international development non-profit organization.  At IREX Ms. Hamner-Koenig designs and seeks funds to implement projects that improve the quality of education, empower young people, and promote peaceful resolution of conflicts in communities around the world.  Previously, she spent two and a half years working out of IREX's Moscow office, a position that involved significant travel across Western Russia and Siberia. Ms. Hamner-Koenig has been active in homeless ministries since 2004 and is also a Board Member for a shelter located at Metropolitan Memorial United Methodist Church.
  • Joe Palca(Treasurer)
    • Joe Palca is a science correspondent for NPR and backup host for Talk of the Nation Science Friday. Before becoming a journalist, Palca earned Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. Palca has won nearly every major U.S. prize for science writing. He lives in Washington, D.C, with his wife and two sons.
