Families

For more than 14 years, we have been able to host  more than 110 homeless families, including 130 children who might otherwise have been lost to the streets and alleys of Washington, DC.

Our families come to us by referral from the DC government. Many have been on the street or in shelters intended for individual adults.

After staying with us and completing their plan to address the issues which have brought them to our cottage, they walk out our doors and:

  • Move into affordable permanent housing found with the assistance of our program staff
  • Use the certifications and skills acquired through our programs to hold jobs
  • Enter their children into school and safe and nurturing child care programs so they can earn  a living.
  • Apply the parenting and other skills they have learned while with us to sustain a promising future.

  • DC Family Homelessness Hits New High
The January 2012 point-in-time count report for the District of Columbia confirms the large rise in family homelessness that has overwhelmed the Department of Human Services capacities to protect homeless children and their parents.
