Services Provided by CIHN
Shelter:
- CIHN provides families with immediate shelter in our three-bedroom cottage located in NW Washington, DC. The cottage is a home with full bathroom facilities, fully stocked kitchen, laundry facilities, computer with Internet access, and more. Children are provided with educational toys, games, and other materials. A staff person or volunteer is on-site to assist the guest families.
- CIHN volunteers donate supplies, including food, paper, and personal items, to help families set up housekeeping.
Housing:
- CIHN assists families to get permanent housing, in either the public or private sector, often using volunteer resources and suggestions.
- CIHN volunteers and sponsor organizations assist families to set up their new homes through providing furnishings, bedding, kitchen utensils, and more.
Social Services:
- CIHN's professional staff work with each family to develop and carry out an individualized plan for addressing the causes and conditions which led to their becoming homeless
- CIHN helps families become aware of and learn how to access available services, benefits and resources
- CIHN professional staff provide personal counseling
- CIHN staff assist parents to secure job-related training and employment
- CIHN staff assure that children are enrolled in appropriate schools and day care
- CIHN staff help to arrange for any needed medical or dental care
