It Changes All Our Lives for Good
Community involvement is integral to our approach. CIHN families stay in a house donated by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Rock Creek Parish. Volunteers from member congregations and the local community help provide the comforts of home—shared meals, a listening ear, an extra hand with the children—humanizing the shelter experience and drawing homeless families into the larger community. These human connections are not only important to shelter residents—they are also cherished by volunteers.
Hundreds of volunteers have been a part of this effort since 1996, and their lives have changed as well. The real-life experience of helping homeless families alters our view of the world and gives us hope for a more humane society.
Please join our wonderful group of volunteers, who do a great deal to help us provide these families with a connection to caring people.
